Are the Philadelphia Flyers back in form to make a run at the playoffs? Not yet. Sorry Flyers fans one offensive explosion is not going to convince anyone that the Broad Street Bullies are back in playoff form. What they did against the Islanders, Monday afternoon, was spectacular. Sean Couturier limited the Islanders best player and goal scorer, John Tavares, to two shots on goal and nothing to show for it. Bryz played excellent for his 19 shots against, but you can say that the real credit for the first time goes to the defense of the Philadelphia Flyers. (I really cannot believe that has left my mouth onto a wordpress post.) The New York Islanders average about 30 shots on goal per game and 3 goals per game. Not only did the Flyers Defense limit the Islanders to 19 shots on goal they also helped Bryz get a shut out. The Flyers played extremely aggressive with 25 hits and 10 takeaways in the neutral zone. Claude Giroux scored an amazing goal in the first 26 seconds set up by Matt Read just throwing the puck on net. If they continue this play then I will completely consider them the preseason Lord Stanley’s cup favorite. Until then we will have to see how they play at the streaking Pittsburgh Penguins. Game by Game.
